Dallas Doing Good to Integrate RealityCheckIt, Amplifying Community Impact Across North Texas

Dallas, Texas — March 21, 2025 — Dallas Doing Good (DDG), the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex’s nonprofit newsroom spotlighting local changemakers, is thrilled to announce the full integration of RealityCheckIt (RCI), an online campaign created by the Phillips Foundation to connect caring people with community needs in real-time.

By combining RCI’s timely and tangible social media campaign with DDG’s storytelling expertise, this integration will create a dynamic platform to highlight critical local issues and inspire action. Whether volunteering, donating, or advocating, local residents will gain enhanced resources to address real-time community needs while celebrating the efforts of individuals and organizations driving meaningful change.

“This partnership is about turning awareness into action,” says Jennie Trejo, Managing Editor at Dallas Doing Good. “RCI’s ability to spotlight immediate calls to action, paired with DDG’s mission to amplify stories of impact, creates an unparalleled opportunity to connect the people of Dallas-Fort Worth with causes that matter most.”

Why the Integration Matters

DDG has been an initiative of The Good Foundation since 2022. Dallas-area family foundations The Good Foundation of Texas (TGF) and Phillips Foundation share a long-standing commitment to innovative social change initiatives and fostering civic engagement in the Dallas-Forth Worth area. Both organizations believe storytelling and real-time responsiveness to needs identified by community partners are essential for creating meaningful change.

  • RealityCheckIt launched as a social media campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic to close the gap between awareness and action. A digital platform grounded in data, RCI seeks to provide clear calls to action that connect caring people with community needs in real time.
  • Dallas Doing Good is a hub for sharing heartfelt stories and connecting North Texans with opportunities to engage meaningfully in their communities. They house a robust event and volunteer community calendar, among other resource guides.

“We are honored to carry RealityCheckIt’s mission forward under Dallas Doing Good. I love what the Phillips Foundation created as a response in a time of crisis, and we are eager to keep the good going,” says Ashlee Kleinert, co-founder of The Good Foundation. “At The Good Foundation, we believe in the dignity of good news– stories that inspire, connect, and move people to action. We know that trust and relationships are the foundation of meaningful change. This integration adds a component to our newsroom that we did not have before. It allows us to elevate the stories and opportunities that matter most while providing young adults in our community with employment and storytelling opportunities that shape the future of civic engagement.”

With this integration, DDG will proceed with RCI’s mission of timely community action, absorbing its nonprofit directory and existent research on social issues while retiring RCI’s standalone website and social platforms. All future calls to action and opportunities for impact will now be housed on DDG’s platform as #RealityCheck posts. Elizabeth Carlock Phillips, Executive Director of Phillips Foundation, shares “This collaboration will further ensure multiple ways of giving are highlighted and accessible in our community. Dallas Doing Good is the natural partner to house this moving forward, and we’re grateful for their leadership.”

Expanding the DDG Fellowship Program

A cornerstone of this integration is the expansion of the DDG Fellowship program. This experiential learning initiative empowers high-school and college-aged youth from historically excluded communities to explore careers in journalism and storytelling.

With RCI’s resources now part of DDG, Fellows will gain enhanced opportunities to research and report on real-time community challenges, using their media skills to amplify local needs and inspire action.

“By integrating RCI into the DDG Fellowship program, we’re equipping the next generation of storytellers with an innovative toolkit to inform, engage, and inspire action,” says Kaileigh Johnson, Executive Director of The Good Foundation. “This ensures the future of civic engagement is in capable, creative hands.”

A Unified Platform for Civic Engagement

The integration reflects the shared mission of fostering community connections and inspiring civic involvement. RCI’s content strategist, Steven Davidson, will continue working with DDG to ensure a smooth transition, the implementation of RCI’s core values and ongoing success.

“Our vision is to provide a platform where stories of impact meet immediate opportunities to act,” says Davidson. “This integration allows us to act on that vision while empowering individuals to create meaningful change in their neighborhoods.”

Looking Ahead

As RCI’s tools and resources merge into DDG, the unified platform will serve as the Dallas-Fort Worth community’s go-to resource for amplifying and contributing to local impact. From actionable volunteer opportunities to inspiring stories of change, DDG will continue driving community connections and celebrating changemakers.
