Foundation Promises $3.5 Million for Arts Center

GREENSBORO, N.C. (June 5, 2013) — The Cemala Foundation and The Joseph M. Bryan Foundation of Greater Greensboro will donate a combined $3 million toward the proposed downtown performing arts center.

Their commitments — $2 million from the Cemala Foundation and $1 million from the Bryan Foundation — bring to $7.5 million the total in private gifts announced to date.

“A performing arts center downtown will be a catalyst for Greensboro’s economic growth and vitality,” Susan Shore Schwartz, Cemala Foundation’s executive director, said in Wednesday’s announcement.

In recent weeks, the Phillips Foundation announced that it will donate $3.5 million, while Lorillard said it will give $1 million. All grants will be paid over a period of years.
